Spring work covers everything short of replacement: a door that has drifted out of balance, a cone that has crept on the shaft, hardware that has worked loose around the spring anchor, or a pair of springs where one has aged faster than the other. Balance is the measurable thing. A correctly counterbalanced door stays roughly where you leave it at waist height instead of sinking or flying up. Booking is by email or the online form.
Spring life is counted in cycles, not seasons. A standard residential torsion spring is commonly rated near 10,000 cycles, which for a household opening the door a few times a day usually lands between about seven and twelve years. Higher-cycle springs are available where a door is the main family entrance. Adjustment can restore balance on a spring with life left in it, but once a coil shows gapping, heavy corrosion or a fracture, replacement in matched pairs is the sound decision.
Work through the symptom first — some of these turn out to need no technician at all.
Torsion springs are wound to suit a specific door weight. Over thousands of cycles the working tension falls away, and the door gradually stops holding position. The change is slow enough that households adapt to it, which is why it is often the opener straining rather than the door itself that gets noticed first.
Adding insulation, replacing a light panel with a heavier one, or swapping to a different door skin changes the load the spring has to balance. The spring is then undersized through no fault of its own. The symptom looks identical to a tired spring but the fix is a correctly specified one.
Winding cones, the centre bearing plate and the anchor bracket all carry load. If fasteners loosen or a cone creeps on the shaft, some of the tension the spring is producing never reaches the drums. Balance goes off even though the spring itself has not failed.
On a two-spring door the pair should share the load. When one weakens or is wound differently, lift becomes asymmetric, the door racks slightly in its tracks, and rollers and hinges wear faster on the loaded side. Correcting only the visible symptom leaves the imbalance in place.
Brampton's post-1990 subdivisions overwhelmingly use double-wide attached garages, and the City's own residential design guidelines set cumulative door width by lot frontage: a lot between 11.6 and 12.5 metres gets about 5.0 metres of door, and 12.5 to 14.0 metres gets around 5.5 metres. That means a lot of wide two-car doors sitting on narrow frontages across Mount Pleasant, Springdale and Castlemore. A wide door is a heavy door, and it punishes a spring that has drifted even slightly out of balance because the error is spread across a much longer bottom edge.
Torsion springs hold enough stored energy to cause serious injury and must not be adjusted with pliers, vice grips or screwdrivers. Do not attempt to wind, unwind or loosen a cone, and do not stand in line with the shaft. Never leave the opener fighting a badly balanced door in the hope it will cope. If the door slams, sinks, or needs real force at the handle, stop using it and book an assessment through the form.
With the opener disconnected the door is lifted manually and stopped at several heights. Where it holds, where it sinks and where it climbs describe the counterbalance far better than any single measurement at the floor. Effort at the handle is noted as well.
Springs are checked for gaps, corrosion, coil spacing and cone position. Bearings, the shaft and the anchor plate are checked for play and for wear tracks that show where load has been going. This is what decides whether the door needs adjustment or a new spring.
Where the spring is still serviceable, tension is set with winding bars in controlled increments and the door is retested between each one. The target is a door that holds position through the middle of its travel and moves with modest, even effort by hand.
Cables are confirmed to be seated and evenly wound on both drums, rollers are checked for free rotation, and the opener's force and travel limits are reviewed against the door's new behaviour. Safety reverse is tested before the visit closes.
