Rollers and tracks are the guide system: they decide whether the door travels in a straight, quiet line or grinds and shudders its way up. Most of the noise homeowners notice starts here, and so does most off-track damage. Repair work covers replacing worn rollers, straightening or replacing damaged rail sections, correcting alignment, and re-seating a door that has jumped its guide. Booking is through the form or by email.
Roller life depends heavily on the type fitted. Basic steel rollers with unsealed bearings are the first thing to get noisy and can need attention within a few years on a busy door. Nylon rollers with sealed bearings run quieter and last considerably longer, which is why they are a common upgrade during a tune-up. Tracks themselves last the life of the door unless they are struck or the door goes off-track, in which case the affected section is replaced rather than reshaped.
Work through the symptom first — some of these turn out to need no technician at all.
Roller wheels and their bearings wear with use. Once a wheel splits or a bearing seizes it stops rolling and starts dragging, which produces noise, resistance and rapid wear on the track flange it is scuffing. One failed roller can put the whole door slightly out of line.
A vehicle bumper, a bicycle, a ladder or a snow blower catching the vertical track leaves a dent or a kink. The door then binds at that point on every cycle. Because the opener pushes through the resistance, the damage spreads to hinges and section stiles.
Track brackets loosen, the jamb they are fixed to moves seasonally, and the gap between rail and door edge changes. Too tight and the rollers bind; too loose and they rattle and can climb out. Alignment is a measurement job rather than something to eyeball.
Winter residue collects in the lower track where the door meets the driveway. Abrasive grit in that channel grinds at the wheels and the flange, and salt film promotes corrosion in exactly the part of the system that needs to stay smooth.
Brampton's arterial network puts most homes within a short drive of heavily salted routes: Highway 410 running north to the 401, Highway 407 along the south, Queen Street east and west, Bovaird Drive, Steeles Avenue and Main Street. Brine and grit come home on tires and dry in the garage, settling into the lower track and onto roller wheels, hinges and bottom brackets. With roughly 44.7 days of snowfall a year there is a long window for that to accumulate, and a roller that was quiet in November is often the source of a new scrape by February.
Never put fingers into a track or between sections while the door can move, and never try to lever a door back into its rail by hand. A door that has jumped its guide is being held by hardware in an unintended way and can shift suddenly. Do not straighten a rail with a hammer while the door is loaded, and do not keep cycling a door that catches. Leave it closed and book an inspection.
Where it is safe, the door is watched through a single cycle from the side so the exact point of the noise or the bind can be located. That narrows the search to specific rollers, hinges or a length of rail instead of a general survey.
With the door down, every roller, hinge, bracket and track section is checked for wear, wobble, cracking, metal residue and deformation. The lower track is cleared of grit so its true condition is visible. Roller stem length and type are noted for replacement.
Worn rollers are replaced with the correct stem and wheel specification, damaged rail sections are straightened or replaced, and bracket positions are reset so the running clearance is even from bottom to curve. Loose fasteners on hinges and brackets are secured.
The door is cycled by hand to confirm it runs freely with no catch at the curve, then the opener's force and limit settings are checked against the reduced resistance and the safety reverse is tested.
